Introducing Deacon...............

Thanks for all the gorgeous Congratulations

And for my darling friend Belinda for letting the world know our happy news. Loves ya chicky. MWAH

So for all the details...........

Started getting contractions about 4.30am on the Friday morning, I was able to time these at 15 minutes apart, but once I got up and started moving around they died off a bit. Cleaned up heaps cause I didn't want to come home to a pig sty. LOL.

Had an antenatal appointment that day too, so we headed off to Rocky and spent a good part of the day in town, got home about 4ish in the arvo. Got a few things together for my hospital bag, had tea, got the kids bathed and Zac in bed, Charlotte knew that something was happening and she wanted to stay up waiting for my mum to come and stay with her.

I ended up ringing up the hospital at 8.30pm just for a little chat and advice on what they thought I should be doing, (my previous two labours have been fairly painless and I didn't get consistent contractions). Lovely midwife suggested that I should just come up and get checked out anyway seeing as we live about an hour away from the hospital and regardless of what was happening they wouldn't send me home. Also got told not to rush. So we didn't get up there until about 10.30pm

Was monitored for awhile, and was having contractions at about 5 minutes apart, felt really strange as I have never experienced frequent and regular contractions. Left us alone in the exam room until midnight when one of the midwives came and checked on me and found I was only 4cm (was hoping that I would of been more), we then walked down the corridor and went into one of the labour rooms. I walked around and around, really wanting to get into the shower but as there was already someone in it I had to make do with walking, bending, squatting and for a little while Luke even rubbed my back. Once I finally got into the shower it was fantastic, such a relief. Stayed there for ages, and had some major contractions. Ended up getting out and doing a little more walking around. This whole time I think the midwife only came in once. Started to get very uncomfortable and at one point I was getting about 5 really really severe contractions on top of the other with about a 1 minute break in between the sets this lasted for about 30 minutes. Jumped back in the shower and got about 3-4 HUGE ones that made me curl up in a ball, it was at this point that I thought if I'm not 10cm I'm asking for drugs. Luke came in and asked if I was ok, told him no and he went off to find a midwife, (ended up having to go right down to the maternity ward to find one, no idea where the labour ward midwives were). They came back and pretty much had to skull drag me onto the bed, found out I was ready to push and that the only thing that stopped Deacon from coming before was my waters, they wanted them to go naturally but I said no, get rid of it, I want this to be over. Lucky they did, found that Deacon had pooed and that he needed to be out ASAP. He wasn't delivered as quick as Zac, but still came out quiet quickly, the Peadeatric Doctor missed the birth as they paged him due to Deacon being in distress. Once he was out, they unwrapped the cord from around his neck, (there was no time for Luke to cut the cord), he was suctioned and had the oxygen put on him. So really we are very lucky to have him here. Didn't cry when he was born and was ghostly white.

Poor little tike has haematomia's on the top of his head from trying to get out for so long, apparently it's quiet rare to have a double set of horns (as the midwives liked to call them) usually only have one off to one side. Really it's nothing to worry about and should go down within 3 months. Looks funny and feels terrible, it can also make him a little miserable too. He was also very bruised around his mouth from hitting against my pelvis for too long. Really he should of been born a little sooner than he was.

All in all, he was here within 4 hours of us arriving at the hospital, it was a very fast and intense labour and delivery once it was going, and thankfully I didn't have drugs (my decision again) and no stitches. Deacon is going well at the moment, very lazy sucker though and is trying to decided if he likes to be fed every 1.5 hours or 3 hours, (I'm suggesting the 3hours)

Anyway he has just woken up and is hungry once more. So I'll leave you with the following piccies.

And again thanks so much for the congrats.

Nicxx

Hi Nic, reading your story brought back such vivid memories of the excitement of labour arrival for me to the point where I got caught up in the emotion of having a 3rd, that is until my 2 year old started crying and my 4 year old joined in - 2nd thoughts - MAYBE NOT - LOL!!!!! But somehow we come thru the hard times stronger and better than ever and ready for the next challenge. Congrats and thanks for sharing your experience with us all, can't wait to see what amazing pages bloom from here on, love & lot's of sleep, Tiff :o)

He is definitely a cutie! So is he settling a bit better now than the other night? Jenna is slowly getting there although she seems to be extra hungry the last 2 days.

Will get you a pressie for Deacon when I'm game enough to go out and do some shopping. :)
